1.When changing over a current Chinese Tourist or Business Visa to a ‘Z’ type Work Visa, is there any way to do this without leaving China?
在不离开中国的情况下，怎么样把当下的旅游签证或商务签证转换为Z工作签证?
The general rule is: A foreigner is required to apply for Z visa if it’s the first time for him/her to apply for employment permit. In this situation, this foreigner needs to leave China.
If the foreigner(who is in China with tourist/business visa) has already got employment license (applied by the employer), he/she can bring required materials to Entry and Exit Administration Bureau ( Located in Pudong) to apply for Residence Permit. (But the officer will decide whether to give the residence permit or not). And the foreigner should apply for employment permit within 10 days after residence permit being issued.
一般规定是：外国人在申请就业许可证时，必须先申请Z签证。在这种情况下，这个外国人需要离开中国。
如果他/她(在中国有旅游或商务签证)已经获得了就业许可证(由雇主申请)，他/她可以携带所需材料至浦东出入境管理局申请申请先行办理居留许可证(能否签发由柜面警官决定)居留许可签发后10日内需办理就业证。
2. If someone is in the process of applying for a Z Work Visa and are told they need a letter from the company’s Chief Rep, however they are the Chief Rep of their company, do they write themselves a letter or should it come from an external organization?
如果有人在申请Z工作签证的过程中，被告知他们需要一封来自公司首席代表的信，但他们就是公司的首席代表，那他们需要自己写一封?还是需要来自其他的组织另一封信?

5. Will the foreigner's visa be cancelled if he/she quits the job in China?

The old employer will cancel the Employment Permit and Residence Permit which are under its name.
单位应在员工离职后注销员工在本单位下的就业证和居留许可。
6. If the foreigner's current work contract will expire soon and he/she wants to look for a new job instead of renewing my contract, what should he/she do to make sure the visa stays valid?

If you find a job before expiry date, the new employer will apply for new Employment Permit and Residence Permit.

7. Do the foreigner need to register at a local police station every time he/she gets a new visa in his/her passport? Within how many days do he/she have to register?

He/she needs to register at a local police station every time he/she comes back to Chine from another country. Within 24 hours.
外国人一旦出境后，入境24小时内需重新办理临时住宿登记。
8. How can he/she apply for an extension on a Business or Tourist Visa?
He/she can provide the materials to the officers and they will decide whether to give you an extension or not. But according to our experience, it’s hard to get a business visa extension.
可以先提交材料后，由柜台出入境警官确定是否可以办理延期。但根据之前反馈，目前还是很难办理商务签证延期。
9. Besides Hong Kong and his/her home country, are there any other places he/she can apply for any type of Chinese visa without having a residence permit?

Chinese Embassies in different countries have different requirements about Chinese visa. It’s better to call the embassy to confirm in advance.

10. How long in advance should he/she start the application process to renew the work visa?
30 days in advance.
