English language requirements
All applicants wishing to undertake undergraduate or postgraduatecoursework study at the University of Canberra must meet the English proficiencyrequirements for that particular course. The full details of English ProficiencyRequirements are listed below.

Section A: Meeting English Proficiency Requirements through PreviousStudy
Applicants are regarded as meeting the University's English proficiencyrequirements for all UC coursework courses(both postgraduate and undergraduate),including those with higher English proficiency requirements, if they havecompleted one of the following qualifications, where the medium of instructionwas English in one of the countries/territories listed in Table 1:
Senior Secondary Study: Successful completion of Year 12 (or equivalent),comparable with the NSW HSC ; or
Post-Secondary Study: Successful completion of an equivalent AQF Diploma orAdvanced Diploma; or Australian (or equivalent) tertiary preparation course(including Australian university foundation courses), with a full-timeequivalence of one year; or
Tertiary Study: Successful completion of at least one (1) year of full-timeAQF Level 7 (Bachelor) and above.

Transnational Education (TNE): Applicants for one of UC's courses offeredoverseas can also meet the English proficiency requirements by completing anyone of the above-mentioned qualifications from any institution where the mediumof instruction and assessment was English and that study required at least twoyears of full-time equivalent study.
Articulated Partners: Applicants from offshore articulation partners whohave studied their course entirely in the English medium only (teaching andassessment) for a minimum of two years meet the English language requirements oftheir chosen course provided there is a current articulation agreement betweenUC and the partner for that course and that agreement has clauses which haveapproved the English proficiency of the partner institution and its relevantcourses.

Section B: Meeting English proficiency requirements through an EnglishLanguage Test
Applicants who do not meet the requirements detailed in Section 1 above maysatisfy the University's English proficiency requirements for the coursesreferred to in the Table below by demonstrating the minimum required testresults in the following tests:

To be valid for the purpose of meeting the University's English Proficiencyrequirements, results from the tests (as per Table 2) must be no more than twoyears old at the time of seeking admission for the relevant course.
Where a student has obtained a recognised English Language test result andthe test result post-dates any of the applicant's other test results orqualifications referred to in this schedule, the results of the test willsupersede any prior English proficiency assessment.

Study at the University of Canberra College English Language Centre(UCCELC) in English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) :Applicants are regarded as meeting the University's English proficiencyrequirements for courses referred to below if they have completed the followingcourses and obtained the stated scores:

UCCELC provides an Offshore Placement Test (OPT) to some offshore agentsand to some applicants already onshore to assist in estimating the length ofEnglish studies required for its ELICOS courses. The OPT is not an officiallyrecognised English language test for the purposes of meeting the University'sEnglish proficiency requirements.
