The University Billing Office generates electronic university bills(U-bills) on the first of each month. U-bills are accessible on the Iowa StudentInformation System portal.
Each month there is activity on a student's U-bill account, the officesends a reminder to the student's uiowa.edu email account.
Contracted charges include tuition, fees, and room and board. These arebilled June 1 for the summer session, August 1 for the fall session, December 1for the winter session, and January 1 for the spring session.
Payment Options
Full payment—You pay all contracted charges in the first month of eachsemester.
Deferred payment plan—You pay each semester's contracted charges in threemonthly payments for a fee of $20 per term. To enroll in this plan, simply paythe minimum monthly payment on your first U-bill.
Miscellaneous Charges
Miscellaneous charges (e.g. bookstore or food purchases, library or parkingfines) also are added to your U-bill. Regardless of which payment option youchoose, you will receive a U-bill any month in which you have charges orpayments on your account. By paying at least theminimum, you avoid having your registration restricted and being assessed a $25reinstatement fee.

Employment
Many UI students hold on-campus jobs, and work opportunities are nearlyalways available. Most jobs pay about $8.20 per hour and entail work in alaboratory or in food service. You may be taxed for income earned in the UnitedStates. Money is deducted each pay period from most employees' paychecks forfederal and state income taxes. The amount of the deduction varies greatly.
In general terms, students in F-1 and J-1 status are permitted to work oncampus 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semester and 40 hours perweek during school breaks when classes are not in session. Students in J-1status must first receive written permission from the responsible office fortheir J-program to work on campus.
Note that F-1 and J-1 students are not eligible to work at jobs designated"Work-Study Program." After one year, F-1 students are eligible for off-campusinternships related to their program of study. Off-campus employment is rarelyallowed.
