Wechat is a messaging app launched by Tencent, which added a red packet feature to the app on Jan 27, 2014. In Chinese culture, red packets filled with cash are often given during holidays. On August 20, 2015, Chinese Valentine's Day, over 1.4 billion red packets were sent and received, which broke the previous record of 1 billion on the eve of 2015.
